Aughrim Military History Summer School

Rubicon had the opportunity at the weekend to participate in the Aughrim Military History Summer School, based at the famous 1691 battlefield in Co. Galway. There were an excellent series of talks by a number of leading 17th century academics combined with extremely impressive Living History displays by Claíomh who portrayed an Irish Gallowglass and early 16th century bowman and Tomás Ó Brogáin who presented the assembled crowd with the uniforms and equipment of the Irish Jacobites and Wild Geese. Rubicon’s Damian Shiels gave a joint presentation with Dr. John Cronin on the Battle of Knockdoe, fought in Co. Galway in 1504. The research had formed part of the Irish Battlefields Project which Rubicon undertook with Eneclann Ltd., the most comprehensive analysis of Irish battlefields ever undertaken in the Irish State. The Summer School was a great success and we are looking forward to 2014 already!
