Book Launch: Heritage Centenary Sites of Rebel County Cork

We had the privilege recently of undertaking a book project on behalf of Cork County Council to mark the 1916-2016 centenary. Entitled ‘Heritage Centenary Sites of Rebel County Cork’, it is the fourth in the Heritage of County Cork series, and will be launched on Monday next 12th December. The book focuses on the 1916-23 period and the surviving elements that surrounds us. In addition is takes a look of the landscape of memory that has develop around the period, and how individuals can explore their local revolutionary past. It is broken down into 10 chapters as follows:

Chapter 3: Moving towards Revolution

Chapter 4: 1916 Rising

Chapter 5: Cork at War, 1918-21

Chapter 6: The Civil War and Cork- A County Divided

Chapter 8: Landscape of Memory

Chapter 9: Researching your Revolutionary Past

Chapter 10: Conclusion

Additional Information: The fourth in the Heritage of County Cork series will be launched on Monday 12th December, by the Mayor of County Cork Cllr. Séamus McGrath and Cork County Council Chief Executive Tim Lucey, commencing at 10am in the County Library Building. This installment, entitled ‘Heritage Centenary Sites of Rebel County Cork’, takes a look at the monumental role played by the County of Cork over the pivotal years that shaped the Ireland of today, from the arrival of the Normans up to and including 1916, the War of Independence and the Civil War. The publication, with its timely release in this centenary year, covers a range of different conflicts and movements throughout the centuries and is heavily illustrated and packed full of first hand personal accounts to give a true insight into these pivotal events. It highlights the major events that took place in the county, ranging from the Battle of Kinsale to Béal na mBláth, and documents the key figures, men and women, of County Cork, who all played such an invaluable role including household names such as Michael Collins and Diarmuid Lynch as well as those not so well known. Copies of the publication will be available for sale at the launch on December 12th and all are welcome to attend.
